Guru Purnima

Guru Purnima is a significant day in Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain traditions, dedicated to honoring spiritual teachers (gurus). It is observed on the full moon day (Purnima) in the month of Ashadha, which typically falls in July. The day is a celebration of the guru’s role in guiding students toward knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual awakening.

In Hinduism, Guru Purnima is considered an auspicious occasion to express gratitude to one’s teacher, whether for academic, spiritual, or life guidance. Devotees often perform rituals, offer prayers, and attend special ceremonies in temples, as well as seek blessings from their spiritual teachers.

In Buddhism, Guru Purnima is associated with the commemoration of the day when Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon at Sarnath, marking the beginning of the teachings of Dharma. It is also a time for Buddhists to honor their teachers.

For Jains, the day marks the anniversary of the birth of Lord Vardhamana Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara, who is highly revered in the Jain faith.
